Leading up to major version releases of their Firefox browser, Mozilla typically creates a serial story line that is featured on the first run page. The process of collaboration that goes into every release of Firefox incorporates hundreds of contributors from around the globe, and beta releases are critical to understanding and addressing all of the bugs as well as ironing out new feature sets.

Inspired by the retro-futurist works of Klaus Bürgle and Syd Mead, we wanted to create a utopian vision of a society building something immense, then slowly reveal elements of the scene with each beta release. We enlisted the help of illustrator Steven Olds to help bring the vision to life, and have completed three of the five total scenes. As an additional nod to the people behind the browser, we’ve created subtle caricatures of select Mozilla contributors.
